Saw this interesting looking fly on my room curtain just as I was about to sleep, one way for me to kill any chances of sleeping early... Anyway it was kindly identified by Kurt as a soldier fly. Kurt has a photo of a much more beautiful soldier fly here.
His fly had its left wing over the right wing while mine had the right wing over the left. Apparently, serious scientific studies have been based on asymmetries that require a left-right axis.
