100617 Terumbu Bemban and Terumbu Semakau

Quite extensive bleaching of the hard coral (Scleractinia) on these two terumbu around Semakau. Also, many of the leathery coral (Alcyoniidae) were strangely colored, most of the Phymanthus anemones were bleached and some of the corallimorphs were starting to discolor as well.


At Terumbu Bemban :

A landing in thigh deep water at Terumbu Bemban.


Large colonies of bleached Porites were commonly sighted.


Porites discolored pink.


Bleached Euphyllia.


Almost all the Pocillopora were bleached. Some looked dead.


Bleached (and dead?) Acropora.




Bleached Phymanthus.


Large patches of discolored (bleached?) leathery coral (Alcyoniidae).




This patch of corallimorphs had areas that were starting to discolor.




Bleached Entacmaea quadricolor.



At Terumbu Semakau :

Bleached Caulastrea.


Bleached Merulina.






Large colonies of discolored Alcyoniidae.

At Terumbu Bemban :

Phyllidia nigra.


At Terumbu Semakau :

Phyllidiella pustulosa.


Stylocheilus sp..


There were large areas of Terumbu Semakau with good growth of Syringodium isoetifolium.


Kok sheng and Chay Hoon both spotted Hippocampus comes.
