100517 Jong

Jong has a pretty respectable collection of wildlife. The Bukom side however is hopelessly barren.

Unidentified soft coral (Alcyonacea).

Nephtheidae. This one has a couple of shrimps and brittle stars in it.

Leathery coral (Alcyoniidae).

Turbinaria sp..

Goniopora sp..

Turbinaria sp..

Mussidae?

Mating sea hares (Aplysia extraordinaria?). Sea slug forum has an interesting entry on mating chains of sea hares.

Quite a fascinating sea hare, fringed in pink. Aplysia dactylomela?

Juvenile blue spotted fantail ray (Taeniura lymma). I saw a few of them about.

Many of these flatworms (Pseudoceros sp.) around.

Holothuria fuscocinera.

Holothuria leucospilota. There were an amazing number of them.

Actinopyga lecanora.

A blanket of corallimorphs.

Red eyed reef crab (Eriphia ferox).

Mosaic crab (Lophozozymus pictor). Highly toxic.

Thalassia hemprichii.

Halophila ovalis.

There was a family of anemonefish (Amphiprion ocellaris) in this carpet anemone (Stichodactyla gigantea) consisting of at least two adults and one juvenile.

Phyllidia pustulosa.

Thanks for sharing! As always, so many beautiful photos. May I ask what camera (and maybe, lenses) you are using? I am feeling sad that my old faithful - Sony FD90 - is dying. It has served me so well for 10 years and now the focusing system is starting to wane. Yes, this is the 'dinosaur' floppy-disk type.

Hi Joseph :) I use a canon 40D for all my intertidal trips. I also only use one lens, the 100mm macro lens for my intertidal trips and resort to my waterproof canon D10 for any wide angle shots.
