091130 Venus Drive

Once again please forgive the freaky lighting. I have no idea what white balances to set for consistent colors between torch and flash.

Limnonectes blythii?

Huntsman spider.

Ivan spotted this strange muddy looking spider.

And this large spider.

Hersilia sp.

I really need to get myself the spider handbook.

A sad broken bioluminescent mushroom.

Caterpillar.

Assassin bug? It was very shy and ran off before I could photograph the mouthpart.

Termites under the leaf litter. They were making very loud scraping noises, like a heavy sack being dragged over sand.

Stick insects. We found 2 on neighboring plants.

Scorpions. They seem to be commonly found together with orange harvestmen. One can be seen in the above photo.

Closer look at a orange harvestman.

That muddy spider is fascinating. I have never seen it before in my forest foray. You should send some of your great (unidentified) spider photos to the expert Joseph Koh. I am sure he will be delighted to take a look.

I'd love to! How do I contact him? I was planning to go check up the spider books before I take up his time.

the muddy spider probably Cryptothelid (Cryptothele sundaica?).

Love your photos! Can never quite achieve the same quality myself. Wish I had more time for night trips too...

I second budak btw :)

Thanks for the ID!

Hey Jac, I was just lamenting the other night about how my photos never achieve the artistic lighting yours possess! Anyway I can never go to these night trips often enough so call me whenever you're going down k?

James, I contacted him before for spider ID but have misplaced his email. Check with Ria privately. Just to share, my humble low-res photos of creepy crawlies can be found at:
